Liz Mitchell

Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, on 12 July 1952 Elizabeth Rebecca Mitchell lived there during eleven years till her parents had decided to move to England. As Liz says she was highly disappointed of the dullness London offered, but her strong spirit allowed her to move forward. From yearly ages she felt something special for singing and always dreamed about performing. Soon she formed a vocal band called “The Sensational Chandeleers” where she was singing with several school friends, it was her first step into the industry of music.

Once singing on a juke box at the coffee shop owned by her parents she was noticed by an agent that wanted to give her the opportunity of recording her voice in a studio. Still her mother argued about it saying that Liz was too young to start a musical career. Three years later after finishing school and attending to a technical college, Liz was contacted by the same agent, June Bader-Semper. He was offering her a part in the musical “Hair”. Liz couldn’t miss a big chance like this and took the leading part touring to Berlin. “The Les Humphries Singers” was a new band she joined after and gained some popularity with some super hits like “Mexico” and “Mama Loo”, but after the male lead singer and her boyfriend Malcolm Magaron left in 1974, Liz has decided to take a short break and deepen into religious thoughts and faith in God. In 1975 she was offered to become the lead singer of a newly formed German band called Boney M, produced by well-known Frank Farian. After such successful hit like “Sunny”, “Daddy Cool” and “The Rivers of Babylon”, that rocked the charts, Liz Mitchell became an international idol gathering fans from all over Europe. It was the peak of her musical career and she was highly loved for her immense talent and her strong beliefs.

Even nowadays Liz Mitchell doesn’t stop singing, pleasing her fans with her powerful voice. In 2005 she released a solo album entitled “Liz Mitchell Sings The Hits Of Boney M”, paying a tribute to the most astonishing music band that conquered all Europe during ages.
