Representing the only male member of Boney M, Bobby Farrell is better known as the charismatic leader and image builder of this band that gained an amazing amount of popularity from 70’s till nowadays. Born on October 6, 1949 on the island of Aruba, located in the Lesser Antilles or also known as Caribbees, Booby Farrell was raised there till the age of 15. After graduating school this emphatic and strong-minded young man worked hardly as a sailor for two years, cruising over the ocean. This amazing travels made him to settle in Norway, but after a short period of time Bobby has decided to move to Netherlands because Aruba was a remaining island of Dutch colonial empire and he had special feeling for this place. Leaded by the dream to become a famous entertainer Bobby started to work as a DJ, demonstrating some nice dancing skills and linguistic talents. Receiving some better job opportunities and the possibility of a career grow, Bobby Farrell finally settled in Germany.

Bobby Farrell’s love for music, amazing Caribbean charisma and exciting dancing started to gain audiences and the first bits of fame he was looking for. Soon after this he had the possibility to meet Frank Farian, the man who was about to form a new band in 1975 that would bring a new breath of air in the musical industry, named Boney M. From the first moments he understood that Bobby Farrell was the amazing personality he was looking for in order to bring some dynamicity and groove into the band.

From this point the popularity of Bobby Farrell started to grow amazingly. After such massive hits as “Rivers of Babylon”, “Ma Baker”, “Rasputin” and of course “Daddy Cool” he became an idol he always wanted to be. Later Frank Farian will say that all the male vocal parts weren’t performed by Bobby Farrell in the studio, but still all live performances were interpreted by him, demonstrating an incredible amount of talent and soul.

Bobby Farrell continued performing till the last moments of his life. His entire life was spent on the stage offering many amazing hits and positive moods. He passed away on December 30, 2010, at age 61 after a show held in St. Petersburg. He was found in his hotel room by the staff just few hours after the concert. Later it will be pronounced that Bobby Farrell deceased due to heart failure.

His overwhelming personality will always remain in our hearts living through his music. Even at the funeral ceremony all the invited guests were asked not to be dressed in black but in colorful outfits, because Bobby Farrell, “The King of Disco” said this, demonstrating once more that he was and will always be “Daddy Cool”.
